Most outdoor gear coverage falls into one of two failure modes: pure opinion without context, or affiliate-driven lists that recommend whatever pays the highest commission. Neither helps someone trying to decide whether a $185 axe is worth it over a $40 one.
What we cover
Bushcraft knives, axes and hatchets, fire starting tools, folding saws, tarps and shelter systems, water filtration, and packs. We cover the tools that matter for the five core bushcraft skills, fire, shelter, water, navigation, and cutting. We do not cover camping stoves, climbing gear, or anything outside the core bushcraft skill set.
How content is produced
Most content on this site is research-based, built from published specifications, manufacturer data, user review analysis, and expert practitioner consensus. When content is based on personal field testing, it says so clearly, with the duration and conditions. When it is not, it says "research-based." Neither approach is dishonest. The honesty is in the labeling.
We do not review products we have not examined or researched carefully. We do not write about gear we do not understand well enough to explain the trade-offs clearly. If a recommendation is outside our knowledge, we say so and point to better sources.
